The Covid-19 Data Challenge is a student data challenge for 6th-12th graders. This partnership between the City of Dallas, Dallas County, DISD and other organizations invites students to join the international role that data is playing to fight back against the novel coronavirus Covid-19. Younger people can pass along Covid-19 to their families and neighbors if they are positive but feel fine, may not have symptoms and have not been tested. By participating in the challenge, students will be able to better understand the virus themselves and share their learnings with their peers to build awareness.
The Challenge will offer three age groups (6th-8th, 9th-10th, and 11th-12th) the chance to use real Covid data-sets to work on an analysis and/or use coding. Students will produce a deliverable that gives insights to how Covid is impacting young people in Dallas. To help facilitate these projects, mentors from the data industry in Dallas will offer "office hours" as a resource to students to help them develop their work. Winning projects will be featured on the Dallas Morning News and parrticipants will have the chance to win mystery prizes from Microsoft.
